80年生まれ。9歳の時、家族でニューヨークに移住。 97年1月、Ryuichi Sakamoto featuring Sister M名義でデビュー。 99年、本名で本格的に音楽活動を開始し、映画「鉄道員」の主題歌、そしてフルアルバム「DAWN PINK」をリリース。現在、音楽活動に加え、連載や映画評などの執筆、翻訳、J-waveのナビゲーター、TVのナレーション、ジュエリー・ブランド「aquadrops」のプロデュースなど創作の幅を拡げ、日本／NYを行き来しながら猫と一緒に音楽漬けの生活をしている。

Miu Sakamoto was born in 1980 and moved to New York with her family when she was nine. Made her debut as “Ryuichi Sakamoto featuring Sister M” in January, 1997. In 1999, she started music career under her real name, sang the title tune of a movie called “Poppoya”, and released an album “DAWN PINK”. Now she is not only a musician. She also writes serials and film review, translates, navigates a radio program of J-wave, narrates TV programs, and produces a jewelry brand called “aquadrops”. Sakamoto lives her music life with her cats going back and forth between Tokyo and New York.

もう８年くらい、ニューヨークと東京を行ったり来たりの生活をしています。その両方の土地に、愛する風景や安らぐ場所があります。残したいと思う愛しい瞬間は、世界のどこにいてもある。あたりまえのことだけど、地球のどこにいても同じ太陽の光がふりそそいでいるから、こうやって切り取ることもできる。
写真を撮り始めたのはたぶん１２歳くらい。デジタルカメラは父の影響で初期から使っていました。前は、自分が美しいと感じた光景を他の人にも伝えたいから撮ってるんだと思っていたけど、今はちょっと違う気がしてきた。撮ることにそんなに深い意味はなくて、ただ、ハッとする瞬間やキュンッとくる衝動を、逃がしたくないだけ。…のような気がします。だから、デジタルカメラを持たない日はありません。
なんといってもおっきい画面に惚れました。そして女の子の手にすっぽりおさまる感じも愛らしい。機械オンチの私でも説明書を見ずとも操作できたくらいシンプル。良き相棒です。

For eight years or so, I have lived in Tokyo and New York, where I have my favorite scenery and comforting places. You can find the moment you want to keep wherever you are. You can take it because the one and only sun is shining all over the world. When I was about twelve, I started taking pictures. I have been familiar with the digital camera because of my father. My object used to be scenery I thought beautiful to show to others. But now it’s a little different. Taking pictures doesn’t have so much meaning　for me. I just want to capture the moment and impulse, I think. That’s why I carry around my digital camera all the time. I love its large display. And it’s small enough to fit comfortably in a girl’s hand. So simple that I didn’t have to read the operating manual. EXILIM is my good partner.
